La Zona Film Review

I was recently presented with three DVDs from a very kind man by the name of Howard Jackson. Any viewers of my blog might have heard that name before and it is because he is also the author of a book called  'Innocent Mosquitoes', of which I made a book review and can be viewed on this very blog.

Anyway, this is the first of three reviews, each one being on one of the films which I lent from my friend Howard. It is about a film called 'La Zona' and it was made and produced in Mexico and released in 2007. 'La Zona' is an enclosed neighbourhood  which inhabits people who are quite rich, with detached houses, very nice gardens, as well as the overall look and protection of the area being so high brow that it is seen as upper class and possibly even superiority over the 'other side' of the city. The plot of the movie is thrilling, consisting of the wall which separates 'La Zona' from the rest of the city being crashed into by a billboard and so opening a way for outsiders to get in. The outsiders in question are there to rob but some people end up being killed and this opens a big can of worms which leads into a police investigation and we eventually find out what exactly happened in the end with devastating conclusions.

The acting was very good, especially by the main actor, or at least in my opinion, being the young adolescent called Alejandro played by Daniel Tovar. For me at least, it was a cast of unknowns because, apart from Maribel VerdĂș (known for films such as Pan's Labyrinth (2006) and the not too recent (2012) release of Blancanieves (Snow White in Spanish) which was well received), it was very interesting to see some very good actors in this movie.

I would highly recommend this movie because it is not too long (94 minutes) and the plot is very interesting and contains a lot of passion, tension and intrigue throughout.
